The Hamerkop





Scopus umbretta
Alto circa 60 centimetri.
Piuttosto strano.
Dicono che è comune,ma ne ho visti poi molti.
---About 60 centimetres tall.
A strange bird.
They say it's common,but I didn't see so much
of them.

Stunning pictures Andrea. Yes, they are common but only near water as that is the source of their food. They build the biggest, most untidy nests with just a small hole for the male to feed the female through. When we are in Kruger I will show them to you. :)

My parents had a gold fish pond in Zimbabwe, well they did until the hammerkop discovered it!!! Great photos. Diane
