A Lonely Eland

Taurotragus oryx. ---1,7 metri alla spalla con un peso che può arrivare ai 1000kg: è la più grande e potente antilope africana. Corre ad una velocità incredibile:fino a 70 km/ora e riesce a spiccare salti fino a 1,5 metri,nonostante la mole. poche volte.Lo si può vedere arrampicarsi su alberi o rocce
alla ricerca di lucertole,pipistrelli o altri piccoli
animali di cui si nutre.Dimensioni tra i 55 e i 63 cm.
---Common for the bird books,but I saw it just few times.
You can see it "climbing" trees and rocks searching for

Mentre guardavamo la iena,accadde qualcosa di strano.
Un Waterbuck si avvicinò lentamente alla iena.
Le arrivò molto vicino,puntandola e poi se ne andò.
La iena non parve curarsi assolutamente della grande antilope.
---While watching the hyena something strange happened.
A Waterbuck began to walk toward the Hyena,arrived very close
and stopped nearby it.Only few minutes,then the Waterbuck
walked away.The Hyena didn't care about the situation and didn't
even watched the big antelope.

Devo ammettere che non è uno dei miei
animali preferiti.Il loro apparire all'improvviso
nella notte accanto a me,non mi piace per nulla.
Dal vivo sono più grandi di quello che si potrebbe
pensare,e sono pure coraggiose (spesso troppo).
Devo anche ammettere che ammiro molto il loro
saper lavorare in gruppo in modo estremamente
efficace ed intelligente...
---I have to say this is not my favourite animal.
I don't like at all when they suddenly appear close
to you in the night.When you see them for the first
time you realize they are bigger then on television,
and I find them very brave too (often, too much...).
But I must say I admire their social organization,
and they can work in team very effectively.

Eravamo a Hwange quando abbiamo visto questa situazione
abbastanza divertente:tre Hamerkop continuavano a svolazzare
su di un ippopotamo assolutamente indifferente.
--- We were in Hwange when we saw this pretty funny situation:
three Hamerkops using an Hippo to land in the middle of the Pool.
The Hippo wasn't absolutely caring about this...

E guardarli camminare insieme ha un che di divertente.

The Side-striped Jackal

Un avvistamento fortunato.
Questo cugino del comune sciacallo e' normalmente
notturno e molto timido. Qui eravamo in pieno giorno.
Il side-striped è più grande e più onnivoro:mangia anche
frutta. Rispetto allo sciacallo normale il suo muso
ricorda molto di più quello di un lupo.

This cousin of the common jackal is very timid and nocturnal.
I saw them sometimes close to our camps during the night.
But here it was full day.
The side-striped jackal is bigger than the common one
and more omnivore. The face have something from the wolf,
while the common jackal always makes me think to a european fox.

Hwange II

Hwange è un Parco bellissimo.
Le foto sono prese dal Sinamatella Rest Camp.
C'è un sito internet su Sinamatella:parla di ristorante,
bar,cottages,shop e distributore di benzina. Attenzione!
Non c'è più nulla! Si può solo campeggiare,i servizi sono
ancora in buone condizioni e c'è anche acqua calda.
Ancora più attenzione! Di notte un leopardo gira per il campo
entrandovi da poco distante il blocco servizi.
---Hwange is a beautiful Park:
I took these pictures from Sinamatella Rest Camp.
There is an internet site about this Camp, speaking
about a restaurant,a bar,Cottages,a shop and a gas station.
Take care!There isn't anything more! Here you can only camp,
the toilettes are still in good conditions and you will
have hot water too.
And take more care about this!!! During the night a leopard
regularly walks through the camp.It comes from the bushes
very close to the toiletts block.

I grandi Elefanti di Matusadona - The Matusadona Big Bulls

Attualmente è molto difficile arrivare in questo
Parco in Zimbabwe,la strada è veramente terribile
e richiede guidatori veramnete esperti di fuoristrada.
Ma questi 3 maschi da soli valevano il sacrificio.
---Actually is very difficult to arrive to this Park
in Zimbabwe,the road is really in terrible conditions
and only a very expert off-road driver can arrive
there.
But... For these 3 Big Bulls no sacrifice is
enough. (Not only the Big Bulls,of course, the Park
is really great).

ma vola veloce come un proiettile,
con un volo molto acrobatico.
Non è facile fargli una foto.
